Self esteem. It's an common issue that many of us face daily. How we view ourselves can be a complex and challenging obstacle to overcome. One day we are filled with the light of today and the next we only see yesterday's darkness. How do we reconcile the difference?
Others may view us as calm, cool and collected, and yet, we struggle with our own inner perspective of ourselves. When we consider the image in the mirror, we tend to see all of our own failings and the many twists and turns of our past. We see the dark hallways and the shortcuts and long paths of challenges that brought us to who we are today. We tend to focus backwards on yesterday's results and they focus on today. Others see us as the person we are today. How do we reconcile the difference?
Our own struggle may be somewhere between these images. Between the 'who we were' versus the 'who do we think we are'. We know all about who we were, so we struggle to recognize who we are.
'Who do you think you are?' Sometimes we can hear that phrase and it makes us cringe. Not in a good or nice way, but each word filled with ridicule and distain. We can almost feel the sarcasm dripping from every word. When we connect to that kind of pain, we know that it affects our self esteem. When that type of darkness is the only image we see in the mirror, how can we see today's light? How do we reconcile the difference?
Turn that phrase around. Do you know who you are? You are a Child of God. Period. Tell yourself. Do you know what you're worth? Everything. You're worth everything and more to Jesus. Tell yourself. Banish that darkness. You are not who you once were, because you have been made brand new through the love of Jesus. When those old images come out of the blue, quickly send them packing. Kick em to the curb. The real you is the vision that God sees. That's who you are. See the you God created you to be. That's the real YOU. So get out there and show it. Be today's you. Tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted. Today's you. Be it. Walk it. Live it. Enjoy it. Rejoice in it. Today's you.
1 Peter 2:9-10 MSG
"But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted."
