I recently attended a conference and during the opening Worship one of the Pastors made a small statement with a very powerful message. "Live in the overflow". My heart was piqued. What does it mean to 'live in the overflow'. I began to read about overflow and I was even more intrigued.
Overflow means to flow over the brim of the receptacle, exceeding the capacity. Most of us are familiar with Psalm 23. This particular part of the passage is speaking to the subject of life in overflow.
Psalm 23:5 The Voice
"You spread out a table before me, provisions in the midst of attack from my enemies; You care for all my needs, anointing my head with soothing, fragrant oil, filling my cup again and again with Your grace."
'Filling my cup again and again with your Grace.' Overflowing in Grace. Living in Grace overflow. Either way you put it, it's definitely a place that we should want to be living. As I continued to read and search out overflow, I found it was Hope that begins the bubbling over. The overflow.
Romans 15:13 The Voice
"I pray that God, the source of all hope, will infuse your lives with an abundance of joy and peace in the midst of your faith so that your hope will overflow through the power of the Holy Spirit."
God Himself, the source of all hope; Jesus, who IS our hope and hope made manifest through the power of The Holy Spirit. Wow! And Wow again! Hope infuses our lives with Joy and Peace in the midst of our Faith. Don't forget the most important part of the entire verse. Through the power of the Holy Spirit. In the midst of faith, hope overflows with peace and joy. All this is only made possible through the grace that is found in Jesus, who is our hope.
Overflow also means there is abundance. More than enough to share. Yep. Every where we go we are sharing something. When we are out and about, are we sharing a life full of faith, hope, peace and joy. How about grace? Do we demonstrate these attributes?
May we each find that we live life in the overflow. Hopeful, joyful, peaceful, faithful and with an abundance of grace. Splash some around today.
