The Second Portion

September 4, 2017

Pressed but not crushed, persecuted not abandoned, struck down but not destroyed. I am blessed beyond the curse, for His promise will endure. His joy's gonna be my strength. Lyrics that we may know.  Most of us can relate to them ourselves. Powerful words of encouragement straight out of the Word of God.

Whether it's family or work related, financial or physical challenges, pressure can cause havoc in our lives. Pressure can feel overwhelming. We can struggle against the chaos. We can twist and turn in the wind. Confusion and despair can have a tremendous impact on our perspectives. But ... remember the second portion of each promise in this passage.  The second portion is His promise and our Hope.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9 NLT
"We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed."

When we take into account the second portion of each line, our heads and hearts can be restored. We will not be crushed by the pressure. We might be conflicted but we are not lost. We may feel cornered, but we are positioned on the Cornerstone. We may fall down, but solid ground is beneath our feet. We are restored at His feet. Our strength is in the Lord. Rest in His presence. When we seek His advice and guidance, we can change our trajectory.

Remember the second part. The portion that saves us. Never give up. Our joy comes in the morning. Each day. Every day brings hope. Our spirits are renewed everyday. When the pressure feels crushing, remember the second portion and be restored.

2 Corinthians 4:16 NLT
"That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day."
