Have you ever been referred to as a 'do-gooder'? The way some people say 'do-gooder' it can be meant as an insult, but the way we receive it changes the atmosphere completely.
Someone who is known as a person who helps others or as a 'do-gooder' is a good thing. Doing good is easy enough. Opening your home to someone in need. Loaning items that you have in excess to someone who is without. Taking the time to check in with friends and relatives. Listening as someone pours out their heart. Treating the car behind you in the drive through line to their coffee order. Helping someone reach something in the grocery store. Picking up that discarded trash and putting it in the appropriate receptacle. From big things to little things, we are planting seeds of God's goodness.
Galatians 6:9 MSG
"So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit."
Doing good is usually easy. Sometimes it takes a bit of planning. Thoughtfulness, initiative and follow through are part of making time to do the things that uplift others. The bonus is the we are the ones who are inspired in the process of doing good.
Spreading the goodness of God is like planting flower seeds in a garden. One day the seeds you plant will flower and bloom and you will know that you have done your part. Whether you actually see the results or not, you can rest well in the midst of your own garden of blooms. Let's keep being 'do-gooder's' and spreading God's goodness wherever we are able.
