Goal #1 - Live a life that makes Jesus proud of us. That sounds easy enough, but yikes, we so easily fail to make the mark on a recurring basis. This description of a well lived life in Philippians 1:9-11 is a goal we should each attempt to achieve on a daily basis.
Philippians 1:9-11 MSG
"So this is my prayer: that your love will flourish and that you will not only love much but well. Learn to love appropriately. You need to use your head and test your feelings so that your love is sincere and intelligent, not sentimental gush. Live a lover’s life, circumspect and exemplary, a life Jesus will be proud of: bountiful in fruits from the soul, making Jesus Christ attractive to all, getting everyone involved in the glory and praise of God."
A life bountiful in the fruits of the Spirit. Be circumspect enough to acknowledge when we miss that mark, and ask for forgiveness as needed. Treat one another, just as we want to be treated. Forgiving quickly, and remember that sometimes we need to forgive ourselves too. Loving our fellowman with sincerity and treating one another with dignity. Being intelligent enough to test our feelings and not fall for fakery and blather. Utilizing the Word itself, to know and understand when teachings are true. Following the guidance of The Holy Spirit as He prods us to stay on our own path.
'A life that makes Jesus attractive to all, getting everyone involved in the glory and praise of God.' The word 'all' jumps out as a very important part of that sentence. Not just people who look, dress or think like we do, but everyone. Making Jesus approachable, by being approachable; nonjudgmental compassion that is filled with kindness and love. Grace and Mercy were trademarked by Jesus, which means that they should also be part of our own repertoire of characteristics.
An exemplary life filled with the character of Christ. Strive for it daily while having enough humility to ask for forgiveness and to forgive. Be approachable, with bountiful fruit that's readily available and that displays the love of Jesus. These are the things that should our everyday #1 goal and prayer; for ourselves and for each other.
