I taught my grandson how to sew a torn seam in a pillow today. As I was showing him how to take his first tiny stitches, he said the most interesting thing. He said he didn’t need to actually learn, because he was sure he could figure out how to do it himself. He was sure, positive in fact, that he didn’t need help, until he got stuck. Yep, he got stuck. That’s when he decided he might need help after all.
Aren’t we all the same way? We’re sure we can do it all on our own. We have it all under control; that is until we don’t. Control has a tendency to slip easily out of our grasp. Control falls right through our fingertips, and when it does we find ourselves stuck. Getting unstuck is all about asking God for help.
Psalm 121:1-8 MSG
“I look up to the mountains; does my strength come from mountains? No, my strength comes from God, who made heaven, and earth, and mountains. He won’t let you stumble, your Guardian God won’t fall asleep. Not on your life!”
When we look for God’s help we will find more than enough. Whether we are stuck, ready for a lesson, or looking up at the teacher; God is there. He is always there. He might send us to a friend who has been there and done that. He may teach us through trial and error. He may open a door that we thought was closed forever. He might open a door that we have never even seen before. However the help happens, He will always have our back.
He is ready to help; we only have to ask Him. We have to ask, listen and learn. Look up. Look up. Look to God; that’s where our help and our strength comes from. The Maker of heaven and earth is our strength. He is where our help comes from every time.
