I had a discussion about change today. It’s hard to change our spots. We sit, all entrenched in our normal, wondering why things aren’t changing. We keep doing the same thing over and over again, yet we expect something different to happen. Until we realize that we must be the catalyst for our own change.
1 Peter 1:14-15 MSG
“Don’t lazily slip back into those old grooves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing. You didn’t know any better then; you do now.”
We know that things have to change, but we find ourselves repeating the past. We know we are headed in the wrong direction, yet we keep on walking. Changing our direction for the better is not as difficult as it sounds, but it takes effort on our part. We have to make the effort and get our butts in gear.
Find a new group of friends who are committed to journeying with Jesus. Get involved with a group of people who are also attempting to change their direction. People who are interested in becoming a positive influence by changing their attitudes and reflecting Jesus to the world.
Philippians 2:13 MSG
"Now that I’m separated from you, keep it up. Better yet, redouble your efforts. Be energetic in your life of salvation, reverent and sensitive before God. That energy is God’senergy, an energy deep within you, God himself willing and working at what will give him the most pleasure."
Sitting on our couch and wanting to change doesn’t work. Hoping that these types of people will suddenly appear in our life doesn’t work. We must respond to the will of God in our life and work at what will give Him the most pleasure. We must decide that we are going to be the catalyst for that change. We are worth the effort. Just ask Jesus, because He certainly thinks so.
