Change can be difficult for many of us. New situations, new leaders, a new home; the variations are potentially extensive. Becoming part of the new change, is that thing that we call unity. Today I heard an extraordinary story. In a church service, with new leadership, there was an extraordinary shift. That shift was towards unity.
1 Corinthians 1:10 NLT
“I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.”
It was the most encouraging story about a church coming together in unity that I’ve heard in a long time. Each and every member, no matter their position or status, came to the altar and rededicated their lives and their hearts; to God, to their leadership and to the unity of their church. How amazing our God is, that ALL should be moved and motivated to make such a declaration.
Unity is defined as a state of being united as a whole. Unity is a state of harmony; each part moving together as one. God’s love is best expressed by unity of thought and purpose within His church. I restate Paul’s declaration; ‘I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.’ Unity in the church; may it become a world wide shift of epic proportions. Hallelujah!
