Wrestling with Worry

April 10, 2018

Worries can make a mess of our minds. We wrestle with the turmoil of worry until we crash under its weight. Our thoughts aren’t clear or strategic, instead we are consumed with questions and doubt. That is not God’s plan for our lives.

Philippians‬ ‭4:6-7‬ ‭MSG‬‬
“Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.”

Instead of worrying, pray. Pray? Is it really as simple as that? God says it is. What ever has tangled up our minds should be put into words of prayer. We should talk about our anxieties and doubts to God. We should cry out our deepest fears and every thought of worry. All of it. He’s heard it all before and He understands our discouragement. Tell him everything and then thank Him. Thank Him in advance for His wisdom, direction and guidance.

Before you know it (which is the very best part), a sense of peace will calm our restlessness. Our hearts and minds become still in the knowledge that God’s hand is in place over us. We will settle down. Settled down, lying beside the still water, comfortable and calm in lush green grass, secure in the knowledge that our Shepherd is watching over us. Calm. Calm. Calm. It is wonderful what happens when Christ displaces our worry, and becomes the center of our lives. Wonderfully calm and peaceful.
