Have you ever wondered what your purpose is? How will you know when you find it? What do you need to do to figure it out? Finding out what your purpose is can be overwhelming and that's understating it.
When I look back at my younger self, I was so excited to figure it out. What was my passion? How could I achieve it? I took classes in high school to prepare me for my goal in college. I thought I would go to college right away. Wrong. God had a different plan. I became a wife and a mom first.
I loved being a military wife (most of the time) and a mom. It was exciting to go from place to place and discover new things together as we traveled the world. It was hard to be away from family, yet somehow it made our family grow. New groups at each assignment. Life long friends that we treasure. Each post also brought new endeavors and I was filled with a new purpose each time.
I did go to college eventually. My own plan was only deferred for a time. I got the degree that I had dreamed about in my youth. I enjoyed working in my field of choice, for a time. That dream changed from what I thought it would be, into what God needed it to be, in order for my purpose to be fulfilled within my dream. What does that mean? I walked in that dream for a time, but it was more about the knowledge I received than the actual job. Interesting how things work out. All things work together for good.
Then I became 'pregnant' with what was next. Then the next thing happened and I prepared for that. I studied diligently and excelled into that purpose. Then there was a new stirring and I went down that path. Then there was a new stirring, and so on until now. Now I'm on this path and I have this purpose.
Did you see that? I didn't have one single purpose. I have had many and hopefully there will be more to come. God puts a fire in our belly and we move into a new purpose. For a time or for a lifetime. God knows us so much better than we know ourselves. If we stay connected to God, He will take us to places we never dreamed possible. He will give us a purpose that is designed with us in mind, and with God's help, He will work out every detail into something good.
Romans 8:28 MSG
"He (Holy Spirit) knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good."
