Talk is cheap. We’ve all heard the phrase. We’ve probably even utilized it in a conversation. It is a ‘truer than we realize’ type of statement that we slough off as inconsequential. Until. Until that moment when we find it difficult to hold our tongue. Until that moment when we feel every bit of attitude we have bubbling up inside of us. Bubbling up and racing towards overflowing right out of our mouths.
Colossians 4:5-6 MSG
“Use your heads as you live and work among outsiders. Don’t miss a trick. Make the most of every opportunity. Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out.”
Make the most of every opportunity to be gracious in our speech. Yep. Every opportunity. Even those moments when our attitude is rising. Even in those moments when we recognize that our words may not be received well. Even those moments. We all know those moments. Be gracious, even in those moments. Bringing out the best in ourselves, brings out the best in others.
