Yesterday has a habit of being a troublemaker. How often we find ourselves conflicted by what we are supposed to have set aside as forgiven. Forgiveness by Jesus isn’t fraught with keeping track and He certainly doesn’t send rude reminders. Forgiveness by Jesus is full of merciful grace and love.
Isaiah 43:18-19 MSG
“Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it? There it is! I’m making a road through the desert, rivers in the badlands.”
Right here we are encouraged to forget the past, not because it’s necessarily bad, but because it’s time to begin a brand new chapter. We can move on by problem solving. Yes, we can learn from our past, but we should have the confidence to move into the future. That confidence is found in the love of Jesus and in His forgiveness.
Brand new means just that. New. New is not full of thoughts of yesterday, but conquered with today’s provision and overflowing with tomorrow’s promises. We might not be able to rewrite history, but we can choose what is right for our future.
