I like coffee. I also tend to spill coffee. It is not uncommon for me to get a coffee stain on any given day. Especially if I’m wearing white. For me white seems to call out for a special moment when I invariably spill or splash my coffee. The stain is now there and in all likelihood it is permanent. An indelible stain. Except for dish soap. If I quickly wet the spot and dab a bit of dish soap on it, the stain is removed. An indelible stain usually starts with something like ink, oil, or even coffee. Indelible is a stain that is in a fixed position and it is permanent; or is it?
1 Corinthians 1:30 MSG
“Everything that we have - right thinking and right living, a clean slate and a fresh start - comes from God by way of Jesus Christ.”
Jesus is our very best friend and because of His sacrifice for us, our indelible marks, our stains, are removed. Permanently. Those old thoughts can be removed. Those old hurtful words, words that we have believed for so long, can be erased. Those things that we did, or that we didn’t do, are forgiven. Permanently.
When we have Jesus in our hearts, we are given a fresh start. Every day we get the opportunity to be more and do more, because of Jesus. Because of Jesus, we are more than that stain we thought we’d never get rid of. Sometimes that old thing, that stain, might try to come back up and rear it’s ugly head, but our God is bigger and much more powerful than our past. Jesus, the Living Water, takes that thing, that thing we once thought was an indelible stain, and He washes it all away.
