Assertive, is not the same thing as being aggressive. These are words that I discussed recently with a friend. Assertiveness is being self assured and confident, without being aggressive. Aggression is an overt act; a forcefulness that is meant to dominate or instill fear. Having a positive sense of self, a good attitude, along with the ability to get things done; these assertive traits can be intimidating to some people.
2 Timothy 1:7 MSG
“God doesn’t want us to be shy with his gifts, but bold and loving and sensible.”
Be bold. Be loving. Be sensible. These are some of the characteristics of God’s children. Being confident and courageous (assertive), without being aggressive, is being bold. Being bold (assertive) while remaining kind and generous is loving. Being bold (assertive) while remaining thoughtful, and gracious is sensible. Be bold, be loving and be sensible. God has given us gifts to be utilized for a purpose. Being inadvertently intimidating by being confident and courageous is not the same thing as being aggressive, which is why we are also encouraged by God to be loving and sensible. Be bold, be loving and be sensible. It’s a God thing.
