Nine Year Old Style

September 27, 2018

‘Resurrection Power’ came on the radio as we set off in the car today. My nine year old grandson suddenly asks the question, “What does that word ‘resurrection’ mean?” He was looking at the digital display on the radio that included the title of the song. I explained that the word resurrection is about when Jesus came back alive after He died. Then he busted out with these unexpected words, “Living in a Kingdom in the clouds forever is way better than being in a fiery pit.” Outta the mouths, but I couldn’t let it go there, so I asked him to clarify his statement for me. As we discussed his remark, I asked him how we get to live in the Kingdom in the clouds forever. His response was simple. ‘You ask Jesus to live in your heart. You know about this, don’t ya Me-Me?”

John‬ ‭3:16-17‬ ‭HCSB‬‬
“For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world that He might condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him."
‭‭
As we continued to talk I asked him how it worked to ask Jesus into your heart. What does that mean? Could he explain it to me? He looked at me kind of sideways and then he went into his explanation; all while I drove, the radio played and he plucked away at his iPad.

“Well, first you have to believe that Jesus is the Son of God. You have to believe that He came from heaven to earth to save us. You have to believe that He also died to save us. You have to believe that He came back to life again and then He went to heaven. You have to believe all about Jesus and you have to try to love like Him.” Then he asks me. “That’s it, right?” My response was just as simple. “Yep. That’s it.” <mic drop>

His nine year old style was simple, straightforward and true; that IS how we get to live in the Kingdom in the clouds forever, by believing all about Jesus. An hour later and we were arguing about doing his homework. Life isn’t always simple and straightforward, but he was definitely right about one thing; we need to believe all about Jesus.
