Home improvements can be fun. We recently finished a project that wasn’t necessarily easy, but is was fun. It was encouraging to be able to look at the progress and see what we could do with our own hands. Each step of the process is a step towards a new concept and a new outlook. Don’t get me wrong, some of those steps are difficult to achieve and can be frustrating, but when we keep at it, the final outcome is worth the trouble.
Matthew 7:24-25 MSG
“These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit—but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.”
God’s Word is the foundation to build our life upon; through His word and in His presence, God is continually making home improvements to our innermost being. The lessons God’s Word teach us helps us to make smarter decisions and improves our lives. Some of these lessons are fun and easygoing, and some are harder than others. Occasionally we have to repeat a lesson until we get the message, but God’s grace is there to help us find our footing and encouraging us along the way. Foundations are the most powerful part of any structure, and our power, our foundation, is found in Jesus Christ. When Jesus is our foundation, we can stand up against anything that comes our way, reassured by His assurance and His power.
