Rend. An unexpected word, a little used word, maybe even a peculiar word. Yet, that’s the word that has been stirring around in my heart today. Rend is defined as a ripping or tearing. As I began to search the Word for the reference that the Holy Spirit was leading me towards, I landed on Isaiah 64.

Isaiah‬ ‭64:1‬ ‭NIV‬‬
“Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains would tremble before you!”

Jesus tells us in Matthew 17:20 that is through our faith, our belief in God and His abilities, that our mountains will move. Here Isaiah had faith in God’s abilities to move mountains too. He calls on God to rend the heavens, to open the heavens and come help him please. Isaiah cries out to God because he knows (and we know) that it is in God’s presence, in His ability, and with His guidance and encouragement that things will change. He knows that is our faith in God that moves the mountains in our lives. When we are praying for God’s presence to come down, to rend the heavens and help us, this is definitely a verse to reflect upon and pray over our lives. ‘Father, rend the heavens and come down; I know that with Your help, that mountain will move. In Jesus Name.’ Our faith in God, even faith as small a mustard seed, rends the heavens and moves mountains. It is God's presence in our lives that delivers us.
