Restoration

March 13, 2019

I recently obtained a sad little nightstand. It is chipped and scratched and this little piece of furniture has definitely seen better days. The top has deep gouges, water stains and a random drawing in permanent marker. In various sections the wood is separating from disuse and mistreatment. What someone else might see as something to discard, has now become project with potential.

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:28-29‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
‭‭

As I began sanding and gluing my little nightstand back together, I was reminded of God’s love for us. He sees our gouges and our scratches and He also sees our potential too. The bits of us that are sad and scarred are refreshed and restored in His loving care. Our tears are gently returned to joy and laughter when we reach out to the Lord. Even in the midst of our pain and weariness we can find rest and restoration in and through the presence of Jesus. Whatever we may have gone through, or may be walking through right now, remember that Jesus sees the potential in us too. Jesus sees us, He sees all of us, and He is gently restoring us through His love, grace and mercy. Jesus sees us. Jesus knows our potential and He is guiding us through the rough spots of restoration and back into what we’ve always been; a lovingly cherished child of God.
