Being known as a person who helps others is a good thing and it's easy enough to do. Lend a helping hand when we are able. Share a meal, a saw, a ride; share what we have with a friend in need. Listen as someone shares their hopes, dreams and fears. Help someone move something heavy. Pick up that discarded item and putting it in the trash. Pay for the vehicle behind us in the drive through lane. Push our shopping cart back (and maybe even that loose one) to the corral, so that it doesn’t inadvertently roll into a car or person. Share our gifts, the things that are easy for us, with those who need help in that particular area. Take the time to check in with friends and relatives. Smile when we make eye contact. Offer a spontaneous compliment. Offer to pray with someone who is obviously struggling. From big things to little things, we are planting seeds of God's goodness from our very own sowing department.
Galatians 6:9 MSG
"So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit."
Doing good is usually pretty easy, and sometimes it takes a bit of planning; thoughtfulness, initiative and follow through are all part and parcel of working in the sowing department. We may need to schedule or purposefully making time to do the things that uplifts others. The bonus is the we are the ones who are inspired in the process of doing good. Spreading the goodness of God is like planting seeds in a garden. One day the seeds we plant will flower and bloom and we will know that we have done our part. Whether we actually see the results or not, we can rest well enjoying the blooming seeds that have been sown into our own garden. Let's keep spreading God's goodness wherever and whenever we are able. May we all do good work in the sowing department, as we make our way through life, sowing the seeds of God’s love everywhere we go.
