Prayer

April 1, 2019

For some of us, prayer may be a difficult thing. We struggle to communicate with God. Sometimes we feel unable to say the right thing, so we just don’t say anything at all. Prayer isn’t always easy, but prayer it is an important conversation that we have with God. God promises to listen, but first things first ... we actually have to talk to Him.

Psalm‬ ‭32:3-5‬ ‭MSG‬‬
“When I kept it all inside, my bones turned to powder, my words became daylong groans. The pressure never let up; all the juices of my life dried up. Then I let it all out; I said, “I’ll make a clean breast of my failures to GOD.” Suddenly the pressure was gone— my guilt dissolved, my sin disappeared.“

Prayer is as easy as talking to our best friend about our lives. A conversation over our morning coffee. That phone call on the way to work. That discussion at lunch. The conversation about that thing that happened that we tell our spouses all about. Those conversations are routinely easy for us and that is exactly what a conversation with Jesus sounds like. Prayer is just a conversation that we have with God. Just a regular conversation with regular words that we use in our regular everyday lives. Prayer is a conversation that is as individual as we are. We tell God all about our junk, and He listens. God isn’t surprised or angered or insulted or disappointed by us. He loves us. He already knows everything about everything that we have done, and even those things that we didn’t do. We still need to come clean, and tell God all about our stuff. When we hold all of our angst and anxiety, our failures and sins inside, it eats away at us. We push it down and push it aside for so long that we can end up sick from the pressure. Prayer isn’t just the antidote, it is the cure for our woes. God already knows AND He understands. We talk to God and then we listen. We open our hearts to His love and the result is the beginning of restoration. First we talk then we listen. God’s got great advice for us and He’s just waiting for the opportunity to tell us all about it. Have a conversation with God; that’s prayer (and don’t forget to listen).
