My eyes have been droopy all day. My friend reminded me the other day, that I have to remember to put rest on my agenda too. I have been running around doing this, and that, and that other thing for a while now. We can all get so caught up in the doing, that we forget about us. I needed my friends gentle reprimand to practice what I preach, and I am thankful for her words and for her encouragement.
Matthew 11:28-29 MSG
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.”
Jesus tells us that He will show us how to take a real rest. Jesus Himself had moments where He stepped away to rest. He understands our bodies need for rest and our minds need to slow down. Rest is essential for our spiritual life as well as for our physical life. Rest is not one of those four letter words that we shouldn’t say. Rest; it’s a purposeful necessity for our well-being, both physical and spiritual. Don’t forget to rest.
