I don't know about you, but 'what kind of work do you do’ is a question that I get rather often. Like many of you, because of our many and varied life adventures, we have a fairly robust skill set. I am fairly handy because of my carpenter grandfather and brother. I have been a cake decorator, a party planner, and yes, at one point, I even apprenticed as a barber. As a military family we moved fairly regularly. Let's face it, we moved a lot. What was a great job in one place, was not always available in the next place. I learn to adapt and to broaden my perspectives, out of necessity. In the process, what I learned from each job, became part of my arsenal for the next one.
Galatians 6:4-5 MSG
"Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life."
Galatians 6:5 tells us to make careful exploration of who we are, the work we have been given, and then sink ourselves into that; wholeheartedly. We give it our best and give God the rest. The passage goes on to express the reasoning behind the process. Each of us is responsible to do our creative best with our own life. Creativity is one of our Father's most miraculous attributes. He created the heavens and the earth. He created the seas and the lands, the sun and the moon. Each day He continues working on creation as He creates the plants, birds, the fish, the animals and as He creates each one of us. Individually and uniquely. Creative is definitely one of God's fortes. We should also make our mark on the world with gusto, enthusiasm and creativity. We can be encouraged and encouraging to ourselves and those in our sphere of influence. We can do our best with whatever task we have in front of us. We can grow and learn and spread our wings with whatever happens. We can be open to opportunities and change, being energetic and thoughtful as we work, remembering to spread the joy of the Lord within our world. We can create and invent and make the world a better place. Our part, our responsibility, is to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. We do that by doing our best, to be our best, everyday. That's our creative responsibility. We won't know the reason, until the season arrives, for us to utilize our past experiences. Today's opportunity may look different from tomorrow's purpose, and that means that each day is another chance to learn and to be our creative best at the opportunities that are in front of us. Make each opportunity worthwhile.
